Description "Isaac Mason: 'Born a Slave; Died a Leader." Enslaved and tasked with demanding physical work from early childhood, Isaac Mason escaped bondage and settled in Worcester, Massachusetts. He became a recruiter for the legendary 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment, US Colored Troops. His commitment to community was revealed in his eulogy, 'Born a slave; died a leader.'"
