Description
English: Baghdad - Senator Bayh meets with the Shiite religious leader Adel Abdul Mahdi. Mahdi is the Deputy of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI). The Senator used this meeting to get a Shiite religious perspective on the situation in Iraq. The Senator told Mahdi that U.S. support was contingent on Iraqis pursuing national, and not sectarian, interests.
