This is 'flyover country' folks. It is a huge part of America that seems forgotten by the urban centers and Washington DC. But it feeds the nation.
I grew up on the vast flat land and sometimes I miss it. My father said you 'could stretch your eyeballs' in this kind of landscape and it is true. Sometimes I find it necessary to drive back there from the West Coast just to experience the vastness.
When I was growing up there a lot of these roads were gravel. Now they have paved almost all of them. Folks back there call an asphalt highway 'the blacktop'.
You'll note, if you look closely, a wind turbine off in the distance on the left of the picture. The last time I was there, in 2013, I was shocked to see those things sprouting up out of the bean fields and corn fields. Also notice the round bale of hay in the ditch on the left. The farmer took advantage of the free grass.

I think the think I like the most is watching those puffy white clouds floating slowly over the green land. You can stand in the silence of the farmland and hear a car coming from a couple miles away. And best of all, there are not that many cars to hear.
