In 1898, the Moran Bros. Company shipyard in Seattle launched the USS Rowan (also TB-8), a Navy torpedo boat which was the first war vessel built in the State of Washington. An estimated 10,000 people came to watch the ceremony on Elliott Bay during which the boat was christened by Adria Maude (Semple) Moale Langdon (1872-1947) the wife of Navy Lieutenant Edward Moale, Jr." 1866-1903)"
