Summary[edit]
DescriptionInside Turbine Tower No 17 - geograph.org.uk - 953836.jpg |
English: Inside Turbine Tower No 17. Here is a rare view that the general public will never see.
This is the inside of the top 22 metre tower section of Turbine No 17 which was the penultimate tower out of a total of 26 towers to be built at the Scout Moor Wind Farm. This tower was completed on the 4th of June 2008. Each tower contains a huge array of cabling that have to be connected to the nacelle that contains the generator, braking system and gear box these cables will also link each individual turbine to the central system control known as the SCADA. The SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is a computer system which collects data from each turbine on the performance of that turbine in real time. Data from the turbines is logged and any faults that may occur with the turbines are recorded here. If a fault occurs with a wind turbine it is recorded, and an instant message, either through email or SMS text to mobile numbers is sent, so that the problem can be fixed in a short space of time and thereby minimising turbine downtime. 830678 829424 696211 633643 824546 754370 Turbine details: Tower Height: 60m Blade Length: 40m Total Max Height: 100m Manufacturer: Nordex Model: N80 |
