Description
English: A complete copper-alloy seal matrix of suggested 17th-century date. For two similar examples, see B. Read:'Metal artefacts of antiquity'; 2001; pp. 81, nos. 619 and 620. The handle consists of a short, flaring stem, surmounted by a wide, opval-shaped, decorative openwork field. The matrix is oval, and features an indented monogram of the letters 'I.F' with stars above and below. The object measures 27mm long, has a matrix diameter of 15mm wide and a mass of 6g.
