On Hardys body was found the 45-calibre automatic army pistol with which hehad nearly killed Patrolman Scott; also 30rounds of its heavy ammunition. In addition he carried nitroglycerine for blowing safes.Carneys armament consisted of the bigmarine corps revolver and 20 rounds ofcartridges. He also carried a soft blacksilk scarf to wear about the lower part ofhis face as a disguise, in connection withhis heavy cap. The police say he canmanipulate the scarf and cap so as to changehis appearance completely in a moment. The death of Hardy and the capture of Carney have restoredlaw and order to the Green Spring Valley of Maryland. The threeremaining members of the yeggmens gang have vanished and a trueservice has been rendered to the people of Baltimore and its suburbs. The facts of this story show some of the reasons why this Rail-road needs a Police Department, the sort of work the Departmentdoes and the fiber of the men who are in it.

Fulton. This picture of him is from the Rogues Gallery of the Chief Post Office Inspector at Washington. He was Hardys right-hand man in the gang. The Man Who Captured Carney The son of a full-blooded Indian womanand the grandson of a Prophet of theCherokee Tribe, Luther W. Rook, Captainof Police of the Baltimore Division of thisRailroad, whose capture of YeggmanCarney is recounted in this leaflet, haslived up to the restless and fearless spiritof his maternal ancestors. From his father, a cattleman of theSouthwest, he came by typically Americantraits of ambition and get there deter-mination which have largely shaped hisunusual career. * * * * C
