Summary[edit]

Description
English: U.S. one cent indicium depicting Benjamin Franklin. Type II overprint of 1 centavo for use in occupied Cuba, 1899. The overprints were an expedient way to quickly produce envelopes for Cuba after the invasion and they were provisional in nature. They were sold for about 6 months until regular Columbus issues could be printed and distributed. This particular type of overprint was placed on one cent blue and oriental buff U.S. envelopes by the Plimpton and Morgan Company in Hartford, Connecticut.
