| Description |
Famous in Chennai for his prolific hand-painted advertisements, P. James is almost an institution in the city. Many people can even recite his phone number off by heart after seeing it on walls, gates, buildings and street corners by the thousand across the city and as far south as Mamallapuram along the ECR. Today P. James's adverts are becoming more rare, getting overwhelmed from several competitors using his should-be-copywrited hand lettering style or the more jarring playbill posters. But I couldn't say I've taken photos of Chennai without at least one shot of P James and his ads in my neighbourhood. |
