Created in POV-Ray. Process involved model created in kpovmodeler, then export and reverse engineering from plain numbers to variables, to allow this scalability in number of windings, poles, laminates etc. The animation is rendered on 3 Linux machines in about 26 minutes with customized own clustering software GRC. Assembled with ImageMagick into animated GIF. Further reduction of size on expense of quality and number of colors is possible through color reduction in GIMP or Adobe ImageReady.
Done under supervision of prof. Karolj Skala, PhD, from Rudjer Boskovic Institute, Zagreb, Croatia.
Many thanks to Mr. Dennis Bentley, Mr. Ivan Vincente, prof. Darko Agic, PhD and others who tested beta versions and gave a lot of useful advice.
(NOTE: some may notice that actual squirrelcage rotor often looks different, but the idea is on showing general principle. Actual work on more realistic squirrelcages is on the way, yet one is recommended to note that this rotor will also rotate in rotating magnetic field. Remember the experiment with plane brass egg in rotating MF: it also started to rotate because of magnetic induction and induced currents. And article is obviously needed in Wikipedia explaining induction motor to greater detail with schemes, as it definitely deserves its own page.)
