As there is so much big game hunting in BritishEast Africa, there is no trouble in finding a man ora firm, either at Mombasa or Nairobi, to procure allthe necessary porters, tents, ammunition and foodfor a party going into the wilds. There are severalmercantile firms which make a business of supply-ing hunting parties, and there are men who willtake charge of everything at so much per month. A hunting party with porters and attendants iscalled a Safari. The battery for each member, to be sufficient forall needs, should consist of a .450 express, a .303sporting rifle, British model, and a 12-bore shotgun; and I should think that sufficient ammunitionfor a three-months trip would be two hundred andfifty rounds of .450 (fifty hard and two hundredsoft), 300 rounds of .303 (one hundred hard andtwo hundred soft), and five hundred 12-bore shotcartridges of, say, the 6 and 8 sizes, sufficient fora three-months trip.
