Text Appearing Before Image: ch they havebeen compared, but the external dimensions are about the same.Specimens examined : Boquete, 4.1 Genus NYCTERIS BorkhausenThe genus Nycteris is easily recognizable by the continuation ofthe dense body fur over the hind limbs and the entire upper side ofthe wide interfemoral membrane. Distinctive tufts of fur appearalso at the upper base of the thumb and along the basal portion of thefourth finger. In the allied genus Dasypterus the interfemoral mem-brane is much less extensively clothed. The skull of Nycteris is shortand the rostrum broad and massive, very much as in Dasypterus, buta pair of minute upper premolars is not present in the latter genus.The teeth are 32 in number. The ears are short and rounded as in Dasypterus. The fore-arm measures about 41 millimeters. Bangs (1902, p. 50) records a specimen collected by W. W. Brown,Jr., at 4,800 feet near Boquete on the southern slope of the Volcan deChiriqui, where the species reaches the extreme southern knownlimit of its distribution.
