It is obvious that the success of the pavement willbe dependent upon the care which is used in the selec-tion of the materials and the skill and thoroughnessshown in combining and placing them, and that thesefeatures are as important as for an asphalt pavement. The base for the new pavement is prepared as for amacadam road; the earth road-bed being graded,drained, formed and rolled, and then covered with alayer of the best stone available w^hich is crushed andscreened to two inches and larger and is rolled with afifteen ton steam roller into a compa
