But the fate of Woot Hite he neverknew, and the fidelity of the Fords he never doubt-ed until he heard the click of their pistols the in-stant before he was hurled into eternity. In Jan-uary Bob Ford proposed to Police CommissionerCraig, of Kansa;s City, to get rid of Jesse James,and earn the large reward offered for his capture.Craig hardly knew what to think of the proposition,but Gov. Crittenden was sent for, and on the 13thof January, 1882, Bob had a secret interview withhim at the St. James Hotel. Gov. Crittenden paida second visit to Kansas City, ostensibly to take partin the ball of a militia company on Washingtonsbirthday, and on the night of Feb. 22d, he had asecond interview with Bob Ford at which the finalarrangements were agreed upon.
