Description
Español: Dicen que la antigua ermita de Santa Bárbara, también conocida como “Templo de la Inmaculada”, es la iglesia de Maracaibo con la historia más dinámica y controversial. Dicha ermita funcionó desde 1583. Desde sus inicios se hizo presente una disputa en torno a la titularidad de la iglesia y su altar mayor, entre la Cofradía de Santa Bárbara y la Archicofradía de la Inmaculada Concepción. Esta discordia fue resuelta en la primera década del siglo XIX, cuando el obispo Santiago Hernández Milanés visitó la capital zuliana y erigió en parroquia la iglesia de Santa Bárbara. Es declarada patrimonio cultural el 2 de agosto de 1960. De la reconstrucción del presbiterio y las capillas laterales del templo se encargó el padre Mariano Parra León, y de la consagración canónica monseñor José Alí Lebrún.
