Created by John Ellis Jr. the night of January 2, 1900, this peaceful scene depicts ice cones on the lake shore at Humber Bay in the Village of Swansea. Sirius, Venus and the constellation Orion can be seen. Annexed as part of the city of Toronto in 1967, a large part of Swansea was owned by the Ellis family. Their home, Hearne Hill, overlooked Grenadier Pond, and today one of the roads running through High Park bears the family’s name.
