Summary[edit]
DescriptionIce Buildup (8743424319).jpg | The greatest cause of death among commercial fishermen is vessel disaster. A major contributing factor in many incidents is capsizing due to the loss of stability. In cold water fisheries, ice buildup on the ship and pots can add thousands of pounds to a vessel in a matter of hours. NIOSH has worked with the US Coast Guard to raise awareness of this danger among fishermen through targeted interventions in high risk fisheries like the Bering Sea crab fishery. |
