Description
English: INS Tarangini, the first Sail Training Ship of the Indian Navy , has been deployed to participate in Tall Ship Races as part of Lokayan 22. The Ship would be celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at various ports during the passage. Accordingly, the ship made port call to Cherbourg, France from 29 Jun to 02 July 2022. The Ship was accorded a warm welcome by the officers of French Navy. The ship was open to visitors on all three days for French and Indian citizens. A reception was hosted onboard wherein, Vice Admiral Philippe Dutrieux, Prefect Maritime de Cherbourg, Mme Anna Pic from French Ministry, French Naval Officers, members from Indian Embassy, Paris, Brigadier Zubin Bhatnagar, MA Paris and personnel from Indian diaspora were present. A special wreath laying ceremony was organized at Rouen Cemetery maintained by Commonwealth War Graves Commission, where the mortal remains of 345 Indian soldiers and workers, who made the Supreme Sacrifice in 1918, during World War I. The Commanding Officer and 20 personnel from the ship took part in the ceremony. Wreath was laid by HE Shri Jawed Ashraf, Ambassador of India to France, Brig Zubin Bhatnagar, MA Paris and Cdr Praveen Kumar, Commanding Officer, INS Tarangini.
