| Description |
English: This scale model kiln duplicates the retention time and the bed agitation of the full scale rotary convector. Overall kiln dimensions, 35-inches long by 26 inches outer diameter,duplicate the length/ diameter of the prototype kiln. Material is fed from the feed storage bin to the rotary kiln via two screw conveyors. The first, a variable speed conveyor, is located in the bottom of the bin and is connected to the second conveyor, a constant speed conveyor, which discharges to the kiln. The feed is converted to charcoal and off- gases in the kiln, with the char discharging to a water jacketed screw conveyor for removal to storage. Air is supplied to the kiln from a compressor, passing through rotameters into the kiln at any of six different locations. Off gases pass from the kiln into an afterburner where secondary air is introduced. The combustion gases then are discharged to the atmosphere through a stack. |
