Description
English: Andrea Vigliotti, program manager, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD), Philadelphia explains the Hybrid Electric Drive to an attendee during the second day of the first Naval Energy Forum (NEF) hosted by the Office of Naval Research and Task Force Energy. The HED is a propulsion plant modification that utilizes an electric motor attached to the Main Reduction Gear, allowing DDG51 Class Ships to operate at higher efficiency. (U.S. Navy photo by John F.
