Title |
House of Peers: trial of ex-ministers. |

Description |
Catalyzed by the decreasing popularity of Charles X and the continual economic hardships of the working class, the July Revolution of 1830 ended the Bourbon monarchy and brought Louis-Philippe to the throne. On December 15, 1830, the trial of Charles X's ministers opened at the Chamber of Peers, in the presence of heavy security forces and public spectators demanding that they be found guilty of treason and put to death. Although all of the ministers were found guilty, they were not sentenced to death, and national troops feared additional outbreaks of violence among the angry crowds. Surprisingly, the troops were able to contain the demonstrators, and the trial marked a symbolic conclusion to the July Revolution of 1830. |
