Summary[edit]
| Description | Postcard of the Hotel St. Francis after the earthquake and subsequent fire. The hotel was not badly damaged by the earthquake, but sustained dameage after the resulting fires were unable to be put out because the city's water mains were broken by the earthquake. Because there was a fear of aftershocks and no assurance of the stability of damaged buildings, many people moved outside into tents, as are seen on the card. |
