You may alsopropagate squashes, pumpkins, watermelons, &c. in the same way.Grass sods or bits of turf may also be used as substitutes for gardenpots in forwarding vegetables, according to a method described in ourlast number, pp. 112, 113. Carrots and parsnips may be sown asdirected last month, p. 116. All the sorts may be sown, either broadcast or in double drills; the latter is preferable, allowing the roots tobe drawn regularly with less waste. Rhubarb — Best raised fromseed. Common culture. Salsify, or oyster plant is raised from seedor roots. It is very hardy, grows in almost any soil. It should becovered with sand or earth, pots or boxes, so as to bleach it as soonas vegetation commences in the spring. Spinage may be sown inApril, broad cast. Two ounces of seed will sow a bed four feet anda half by thirty feet. In drills one ounce will sow the same space.The drills should be from nine to twelve inches apart, and the seedsown thinly in the rows.

We present to the readers of the Register the first of a seriesof drawings which have been some time in preparation, destinedto extend and cultivate a taste for ornamental habitations, andfor rendering such garden spots as may be attached to themembellishments instead of mere receptacles for weeds. Nor needthe size of such spots be any impediment, for however small, there isalways room for the exercise of taste in laying them out, and whenonce in order, very little time and attention is required to keep themso, provided such attention is constant. For grounds of large surfacecontaining considerable inequalities, with varieties of wood, waterand. plain, an extension of the principles laid down will be necessary ;but even here the application of a few simple rules of taste may besufficient to convert them into sources of great enjoyment.
