Summary[edit]
DescriptionHorns Tavern pub (site of) 255, Rotherhithe Street, London, SE16 - geograph.org.uk - 1599073.jpg |
English: Horns Tavern pub (site of) 255, Rotherhithe Street, London, SE16 Recorded in 1810 and finally disappeared in 1896 and would have stood somewhere in the length of Canada Wharf shown - when standing there were wharves behind it. No doubt the name derived from the 'Horns Fair' in Charlton / Cuckolds Point story of King John and the millers wife. The pub was in front of Cuckolds Point. Far right is the Blacksmith Arms pub (1805-current). On the same side of the street stood three other pubs but I cannot even have an 'educated guess' as to their locations, they were :- 'Britannia' No. 307 (1868 - ?) : 'Royal Standard' No.313 (1828-1894) and 'The Acorn' No 339 (1787-1942). |
