Summary[edit]

Description
English: Built between 1842 and 1850, this Greek Revival-style house was originally known as the Russell-Thomas House, and was constructed by Robert Russell, Jr. The house was later owned by Jo Thomas, a transportation magnate, whom lived in the house from 1859 until 1888. The house features a red brick exterior with a seven-bay front facade centered on a two-story doric portico with four large columns and a front pediment, flanked by two bays divided by pilasters, a decorative door surround with pilasters and a cornice, and a side gable roof. The house was later purchased by Centre College in about 1992 and subsequently renovated to serve as the admissions and financial planning offices for the college, and was dedicated in honor of John H. Horky and his wife, Lorette Horky, whose donation to the college made the purchase and renovation of the house possible. The house is a contributing structure in the Maple Avenue Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
