English: Hitler greeting the wounded. Memorial Day for the nation’s heroes. The photo shows der Führer greeting the wounded who were guests of honour at the ceremony in Berlin March 21st 1943. Archival reference: RAFA3309_23_2.
Deutsch: Original-Bildunterschrift: Der Heldengedenktag der Nation. In heroischer und stolzer Trauer beging am Sonntag das deutsche Volk das Gedenken seiner gefallenen Helden. Der Staatsakt in Berlin erhielt seine hohe Weihe durch die Gegenwart des Führers. Im Zeughaug, der Ruhmesstätte preussisch-deutscher Geschichte neigte sich der Führer und mit ihm das ganze deutsche Volk in Ehrfurcht vor den unsterblichen Helden des Krieges. Nach der Ansprache begab sich der Führer ins Ehrenmal und legte hier einen Kranz für die Gefallenen nieder. Dann begrüsste er vor dem Ehrenmal Verwundete des ersten Weltkrieges und dieses Krieges. Darauf erfolgte der Vorbeimarsch eines Ehrenbataillons, das aus je einer Kompanie des Heeres, der Kriegsmarine, der Luftwaffe und der Waffen SS zusammengesetzt war und das unter dem Kommando des Ritterkreuzträgers Oberstleutnant Gehrke stand. Unser Bild zeigt den Führer, als er die Verwundeten, die als Ehrengaste an der Feier teilnahmen, begrüsste.
