Nov. 12, 1885. 162 ORIN PENFIELD (Orin 87), b. in Windham, Me., July 4,1836: a man of real enterprise and very versatile talents, whocould do almost anything he set his hand to. The following sketch,condensed from his own personal statement to the author, verifiesthe remark just made. The author ventures the assertion that noother Chaffin ever took up so many kinds of business and had sucha varied business experience. Orin P. was left a fatherless boy at the age of sixteen, the oldestof seven children, whom he and his mother supported.
