Cromwell, by RobertWalker, and Lambert by the same, at the NationalPortrait Gallery, have long hair, and John Pymhas flowing brown hair in the portrait lent by SirHenry Wilmot to the South Kensington Exhibi-tion of 1866. Cromwell told the painter to whom he sat notto slur over any blemish, but to represent everywart and wrinkle on his face. Some say thispainter was Cooper, but Granger says it was Lely. Coopers miniatures of Cromwell are perfect,and they were so much admired that there was aconsiderable demand for them.
