Summary[edit]

Description Built in 1913-1914, this Classical Revival-style building was built by Charles E. Marks to be the largest and most luxurious apartment building in Downtown Madison at the time. The building is clad in red brick with stone trim, including a water table at the base of the first floor, accents at the windows, a decorative surrounds at the front doorway with a shallow awning, brackets, decorative metal sconces, and a stone stoop, a cornice at the top of the first floor, name stones over the main entrance door below the second story window, stone sills at the windows, a cornice at the base of the parapet, a stone cap on the top of the parapet, with other features including a recessed side porch in the middle of the building’s Pinckney Street facade, solariums on the sides of the building, bay windows on the front and rear facades, brick chimneys, replacement windows, and a low-slope roof. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, and continues to serve as an apartment building.
