Summary[edit]

Description

This building is on the beachfront at Santa Monica, California, close to the famous pier. It started as a beach club for A-listers in the 1920's and was frequented by the rich and famous. However the war put a stop to that and in 1941 it was taken over by the Navy and used as a basic accommodation for sailors.

From 1967-1997 it had a variety of uses but in 1997 it was converted to the luxury hotel we see today. It's also one of only two hotels in the entire Los Angeles area which has direct beach access.

Its history is why it's on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Interesting information about the building is here:
