English: Kerala is a southern state of India hugging the western peninsular coastline. It is home to numerous historic sites of India, monasteries, and has been a source of important historic manuscripts and inscription plates. The oldest sites are predominantly Hindu along with some Jain. Of these, the temples of Ay, Musaka, Chera Hindu dynasties are most notable. In the 1st millennium, Jewish, Christian and Islamic traders arrived in Kerala, creating additional religious communities and monuments.

Kerala preserves the largest collection of apsidal and circular plan Hindu temples from the pre-14th century period. Square plan architecture are also found. In addition, the state has several notable cave monuments. Some Hindu temples also include murals and exceptional wood work.

The map above shows over 100 historic sites in Kerala with GPS coordinates. These are predominantly Hindu and Jain. The GPS coordinates are based on actual field survey and periodic site visits since 2015 for detailed aerial and surface photography along with architectural plans digitization effort.
