Description The German flight pioneer Hellmuth Hirth (1886-1938) (left) and his mechanic (right) before a airplane "Rumpler-Taube" in 1912.; The aircraft "Rumpler Taube" was built by the airplane manufacturer "Rumpler Luftfahrzeugbau GmbH" in Berlin-Johannisthal. The same airplane type was built in Vienna too ("Lohner Werke"), but only the airplanes built in Berlin were called with the marketing name "Rumpler Taube" (= German for "The pigeon of the Mr. Rumpler"), meant is Edmund Rumpler (1872-1940), the founder and main owner of the airplane building enterprise in Berlin-Johannistal (existed 1908-1914). The name "Taube" ("pigeon") goes back to the Austrian constructor Igo Etrich (1879-1957), which constructed his "Taube" ("Pigeon" = "Etrich Taube") in 1910. The photograph was made on the airport Leipzig-Lindenthal on the and shows the pilot Hellmuth Hirth (right) (1886-1938) and his mechanic (left) at the flight Berlin-Leipzig-Dresden. Hirth was launched in Berlin-Johannisthal with an "Rumpler Taube" in the morning of the same day and reached on his way to Leipzig-Lindenthal with a 95 hp motor a flight high of 1600 m.
