Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: High Street The main B2028 heading northwards through the village. Hapstead Hall is in the background and the name gives a little clue about the history of the village. The original centre of the village was around the church to the west whilst this part was marked on the 1800 map as the hamlet of Hapstead Green. During the 19th century the village shifted eastwards drawn towards the main road which for a time was one of the main London-Brighton coaching routes - in fact the current annual London to Brighton bike ride follows this route. The junction to the left forms part of Street Lane. |
