Title
English: Henry Hadley, conductor of the Seattle Symphony, 1911
Description
English:

Born into a musical family in Massachusetts, Henry Kimball Hadley studied with leading composers and conductors in the United States and Europe. He moved to Seattle in 1909 to conduct the Seattle Symphony. With support from the C.D. Stimson family and other prominent Seattleites, Hadley was able to expand both the orchestra and its season. He became friends with the Stimsons and spent several quiet weeks at one of their homes while composing music. In 1911, when he left Seattle, Hadley presented this portrait photograph to Mr. and Mrs. Stimson.

Hadley became the first conductor of the San Francisco Symphony, and later the associate conductor of the New York Philharmonic and founder of the Tanglewood Music Festival. Throughout his career, he was an active composer and an international conductor and promoter of American music."
