Summary[edit]
DescriptionHelms of Eastham bus (E935 CDS), Showbus rally 2009.jpg | Helms of Eastham bus (reg. E935 CDS, ex-VLT 204/E164 YGB) (ex-Dunn-Line/Nottingham 395/Chester 20/Clydeside 164), seen here at the 2009 Showbus rally in Duxford. It's a 1987 built Leyland-DAB Lion double decker with Alexander RH bodywork. Only 32 Lions were ever built, with 19 of them receiving Alexander RH bodywork, all coach seated. This was one of a batch of 6 originally ordered by SBG subsidiary Kelvin Scottish, but having already been registered and painted in Kelvin livery, the order was cancelled. This meant only one went into service (as a demonstrator), while the other five (including this one) went into storage. All 6 eventually went to another SBG subsidiary, Clydeside Scottish, with the 5 stored buses receiving E-prefix registrations - this one became E164 YGB, being numbered 164 in the Clydeside fleet. In this period, Clydeside re-registered a lot of their buses with plates taken from ex-London Transport Routemasters now in their fleet, and they did so with this bus, giving it the plate VLT 204 (from RM204). The five strong E-prefix batch were later sold to Chester City Transport, this one becoming No. 20 in their fleet (before sale, Clydeside removed the Routemaster plate, replacing it with the one it's wearing here). All five then passed to Nottingham City Transport (who had also bought some East Lancs bodied Lions from new), this one being numbered 395 in their fleet. This bus then went its own way for the first time, being sold to Dunn-Line, before moving on again to Helms. It has subsequently left the Helms fleet, apparently being used by a morris dancer troupe, still wearing Helm's red/cream base colours. |
