Description |
Nederlands: Fig. 4. Natuurkundig Laboratorium, Steenschuur, Leiden. English: FIG. 4. Schematic representation of the helium liquefactor with the associated helium cryostat. The hydrogen (H2) serves as pre-cooling. The helium gas (He) enters the plant at A closed loop in order to end up via the regenerator spirals at the expansion valve K (to be operated via a long rod from outside) and to undergo Joule-Thomson cooling. Thus, with each cycle, the helium drops in temperature until it becomes fluid. Through a siphon, the liquid helium enters the separate cryostat that accommodates instruments and test substances.
