Description
English: Higginson's syringe. This was generally used for enemas, but in this case it was used for vaginal douching.

Sometimes, though not in the book at hand, it was used to effect an abortion.

McKenzie, 1932 is a fascinating paper on Alfred Higginson and the medical devices he invented, with special reference to this syringe design.
