Pumpkins They ought to be grown largely on every farm in the South.Many sorts are splendid for pies and baking; others make asplendid feed for stock during the winter months. This is a_ neglected crop in the South now, but should be more largely grown. They are easily sold in the towns and cities when not wanted for use on the farm.Plant pumpkins on the farm in 1912—it will pay you. CULTURE—Usually grown in corn-fields, but if grown as a separate crop, seed should beplanted in hills 3 to 10 feet apart each way after weather and soil get warm. Hoe often till vinesbegin to run. When leaves die cut the pumpkins from vine, leaving 3 to 4 inches of stem at-tached and store in a dry place. Handle carefully and avoid bruising. Use 1 ounce of seed to20 hills of most varieties; 3 to 4 pounds per acre. Japanese Pie Pumpkin A distinct Japanese variety, adapted to allparts of the South.
