Blazon

  • Shield: Ermine, on a chevron vert, a mine case between two Engineer castles argent.[1][2]
  • Crest: On a wreath of the colors a dexter arm in armor, embowed proper charged with a mullet gules grasping in the naked hand a sword argent hilted or.[1][2]
  • Motto: The motto Sic Vis Pacem, Para Bellum (If you want peace, prepare for war).[1][2]

Symbolism

Fort Totten was originally the site of the Engineer School of Application, later the Coast Artillery School of Submarine Defense. The Chevron in green, the school color, with its charges, shows its history. It is now the seat of the Artillery District shown by the crest, the star indicating a general officer, the arm with sword the power of command.[2]
