English: Hampstead: Reservoir vent pipes This covered reservoir at Hampstead dates from 1856. In this view from Lower Terrace the twin black pipes are some form of venting device, and the sound of gurgling water can be heard if you stand close by. The green plate on the railings states
Water Valve No Parking so presumably there is some form of inlet or outlet valve to or from the reservoir in the road at this point. |
