Nederlands: Geschakelde halsketting met amulethanger van zilverlegering. Op de hanger is aan één kant de tekst 'ma shaa Allah' (wat God wil) ingegraveerd. Deze uitdrukking wordt gebruikt om bewondering te uiten en daarmee eventuele (onbewuste) gevoelens van afgunst uit te bannen. Aan de andere kant staan imitatieletters. Aan de hanger hangen belletjes en lovertjes van hetzelfde materiaal en een blauwe glazen schijf met zeven gaatjes.
De kleur blauw van de schijf en de formule 'ma shaa Allah' geven aan dat het amulet werkzaam is tegen het boze oog. Het geloof in het boze oog gaat uit van het principe dat zaken of omstandigheden waar veel waarde aan wordt gehecht de afgunst van andere mensen kunnen opwekken. Deze mensen kunnen, al dan niet bewust, met hun afgunst schade toebrengen aan het object van afgunst. Zwangere vrouwen, aanstaande bruiden en kleine kinderen zijn het meest kwetsbaar voor het boze oog. Ook belangrijke bezittingen als auto's, huizen en vee kunnen bescherming nodig hebben tegen het boze oog. Het boze oog kan afgewend worden door bepaalde symbolen als een afbeelding van een oog of een opgeheven hand (het zg. handje van Fatima). Ook bepaalde religieuze formules en de kleur blauw zijn werkzaam tegen het boze oog. |
