Summary[edit]

Description
English: Members of a USS Normandy (CG 60) shore party team prepare to moor their rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) to a small dock in the small Haitian town of Petit Trou de Nippes, about 70 miles from Port-au-Prince along the southeastern coast. Normandy accessed damage and established ties with local leadership there, in order to prepare for possible follow-on humanitarian assistance/disaster relief (HA/DR) operations for that village. During the ship???s initial visit, Normandy delivered crucial medical supplies, provided gas for the town???s generator, and coordinated a medical evacuation for an 11-year-old girl that was diagnosed by the ship's independent duty corpsman as having yellow fever. Normandy's efforts are part of Operation Unified Response, the humanitarian assistance/disaster relief response to earthquake that occurred in Haiti on Jan. 12. (U.S. Navy Photo by Ensign Adam R.
