| Description |
English: A Haida village, Old Kasaan, on Prince of Wales Island. Higginson incorrectly identifies this as Howkan (a Haida village on Long Island, facing Kaigani Strait); comparison of houses,landforms and totem poles with other photographs establishes that this is Kasaan see particularly [1], File:Post card. Old Kasaan totems. Ketchikan, Alaska. - NARA - 297720.jpg, and File:Color photo, Old Kasaan, Alaska. - NARA - 297710.jpg. Probably 1898-1908. The absence of boats and people suggests this was taken after the population relocated to New Kasaan about 1902. |
