Description |
English: HMS 'Invincible' exploding at the Battle of Jutland, 31 May 1916 Inscribed by the artist, lower right, 'Blowing up of Invincible'. At the Battle of Jutland the battle-cruiser 'Invincible' blew up at 18.32 after being hit on 'Q' turret. Her bow and stern, both seen here divided by the blast column, remained afloat for some time. There were six survivors and 1026 men were lost. At the time of her loss she was under fire from the German battle-cruisers 'Lützow' and 'Derfflinger' but German records credit her loss solely to the Lützow.
