Wilson visited Plymouth during the summer of 1861 where he photographed naval ships. Read Roger Taylor’s book about G.W.H.’s life and career in George Washington Wilson: Artist & Photographer 2018. This is also around the time that Wilson was experimenting with ‘instantaneous’ photographs that captured fleeting details like the smoke from naval cannon.
