Summary[edit]

Description So this then is the de facto symbol of Hanoi, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Ba Dinh Square of the city. This is one of the most visited attractions in Hanoi and is the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh, the most iconic and popular leader of Vietnam, known to his people as ‘Uncle Ho’. His body is preserved in here in a glass case (albeit against his wishes). The square adjacent to the Ho Chi Minh complex is called Ba Dinh square, where many important national historical events in modern history took place. There are several entry restrictions to enter this mausoleum, there is a strict dress code and cameras have to be deposited at the entrance. However, the shrine was closed at the time of my visit as his body had been shipped off to Russia for 'routine maintenance', which happens in October every year. (Hanoi, Vietnam, Oct./ Nov. 2016)
