Description
English: Lance Cpl. Michael R. Thomas, from Lake in the Hills, Illinois, provides security through a window Aug. 27 during military operations on urbanized terrain at the Central Training Area on Okinawa, Japan. Complicating factors in urban warfare include the presence of civilians and the complexity of the terrain. MOUT is combat conducted in urban areas such as cities or towns. Thomas is a machine gunner with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, currently assigned to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, under the unit deployment program.
