Description
English: A U.S. Navy Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat of Fighting Squadron 40 (VF-40) escorts a Japanese Kyūshū K11W Shiragiku after the Japanese surrender, in August 1945. VF-40 was assigned to Escort Carrier Air Group 40 (CVEG-40) aboard the escort carrier USS Suwannee (CVE-27) from 8 February to 2 September 1945. Note the geometric identification symbol on the Hellcat.
