Summary[edit]

Description
Français : Un groupe d'artilleurs français pose sur leur canon modèle 1877 en compagnie de deux soldats australiens.
English: A group of unidentified French gunners posed with a howitzer. Among them are a couple of Australians. The gun appears to be a Matériel de 155 Long, Modele 1877, adapted to carry part of the armoured shield from a 155 L Modele 1877-1914. The shield has the name "Mary" painted on the inside. To the left of the gun is a metal post and rail. It was part of the means by which the gun’s position relative to the ground was surveyed and established, such that the gun could be registered on a target and zeroed in after each recoil.
