A row of stor-age pits and coldframes along the south sideof a greenhouse is of great convenience.The house must be provided with a gutter, orthe frames set a foot or more away from theside of the house to guard against breakage 38 GREENHOUSES by snow or ice falling from the roof. A pitmay be attached to the south side of a dwell-ing and connected with the basement. Whenthe house is heated by a furnace this may beeasily heated with little expense, and be usedfor growing vegetables or flowers through-out the winter.
